Volgens sommige politici of een deel van het publiek is dat nu reeds. Sommige\nbelhamels beweren zelfs dat ze nooit bestaan heeft! We\ndringen maar al te graag onze agenda op aan het virus,\nmaar in werkelijkheid zullen we pas retrospectief kunnen\nbepalen wanneer de pandemie ten einde liep. Binnen enkele jaren zullen we erop terugblikken en objectief kunnen\nvaststellen wanneer de situatie langdurig stabiel werd.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We hoeven echter niet ongerust\nte zijn. De pandemie is misschien\nnog niet over, maar de impact\nen onze aanpak ervan evolueren\nwel voortdurend. We worden\nniet alleen beter in het bestrijden\nvan het virus - denk maar aan\nde gerichte inzet van ventilatie,\nmaskers en zelftesten - maar ook\nons immuunsysteem wordt beter\nin het herkennen van het virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opfrissingscursus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ons immuunsysteem heeft momenteel de bachelor 'coronavirus' net\nafgemaakt. Bij sommige mensen\nis dat met hakken over de sloot,\nbij anderen met lof van de jury.\nMaar, net als voor ons werk, is het\nvoor ons immuunsysteem cruciaal\nom levenslang bij te leren. Ons\nimmuunsysteem zal regelmatig een\nopfrissingscursus moeten krijgen,\nomdat het, net als wij, vergeetachtig\nis of omdat de leerstof, de code van\nhet virus, nu \u00e9\u00e9nmaal evolueert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Succesvolle boostercampagnes\nzullen ons beste wapen zijn om\ntoekomstige golven in te dijken. Het wordt een hele uitdaging om\nhet belang hiervan te communiceren aan de bevolking. We hopen\ndat de mensen in de zorg ons hierin zullen bijstaan als uitgelezen ambassadeurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u00ab Als wij al te graag onze eigen agenda aan het virus willen opleggen, is de waarheid dat men pas achteraf kan bepalen wanneer een pandemie werkelijk voorbij is. \u00bb<\/em> \u2013 Steven Van Gucht | Photos Mat Napo &amp; CDC on Unsplash.com<br><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Met dank<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En wat zijn dan de 'lessons learned'\nna twee jaar pandemie? Ik had hierover reeds vele vergaderingen met\nkabinetten, ministers, EU-commissarissen en recent zelfs een rondetafelgesprek met de Koning. Er zal\nongetwijfeld nog vele kilometers\ninkt vloeien. Maar heeft het virus\nons nog wat anders geleerd dan het\nvanzelfsprekende?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De pandemie heeft ons heel wat\nnieuwe begrippen bijgebracht. Zo\nis het begrip 'essentieel beroep'\neen mooi staaltje van pandemische\nlingu\u00efstiek. Iedereen kent dit nu en\nweet hoe belangrijk deze mensen\nzijn. Het zijn niet de grootverdieners, maar wel de handen aan ons\nbed, de meesters voor de klas, de\nhandhavers van de orde en zovele\nandere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dus hoe vat je twee jaar pandemie\ndan samen in \u00e9\u00e9n woord? Met 'dankbaarheid' voor al die mensen. Ik heb\nzelf mogen ondervinden hoezeer dit\nmij overeind heeft gehouden in de\nmoeilijkste momenten. Daarom wil ik dit voorwoord vooral  gebruiken om mijn dank uit te\nspreken aan de mensen in de zorg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">En voor de toekomst?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In \u00e9\u00e9n van onze laatste GEMS\nvergaderingen spraken we recent\nover de langetermijnstrategie. Een\nvraag kwam naar boven: 'wat als\ner een nieuwe golf komt?'. Kan\nde zorg dit eigenlijk nog wel aan?\nKunnen de zorgverleners weer die\nmoed opbrengen? Het werd letterlijk even stil. De statistici, epidemiologen, virologen, psychologen\nen economen in de groep waren er\nniet gerust in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ik verwachte een donkere klaagzang. Maar onze collega\u2019s uit de\nzorg, artsen uit de ziekenhuizen en\ndaarbuiten, keken vastberaden en\nminzaam tegelijk in de lens van de\nlaptop. Hoezo, wij laten toch nooit\neen pati\u00ebnt in de steek? Het leek\nbijna een vreemde vraag. Toen wist\nik dat het goedkomt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bedankt lieve collega\u2019s.
