De wachttijden die aan pati\u00ebnten voor behandelingen worden opgelegd, zijn er lang tot zeer lang. Het NHS, het openbare gezondheidssysteem in het Verenigd Koninkrijk, meet deze wachttijden regelmatig en de laatste gegevens zijn zorgwekkend.<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men schat dat meer dan\n7 miljoen burgers op\ngeprogrammeerde zorg\nwachten van wie 40% langer dan 4\nmaanden. De stijgende wachttijden\naan de overkant van het Kanaal\ngaan gepaard met een significante\ndaling van het aantal pati\u00ebnten dat\ndoor het NHS wordt behandeld:\n-10% spoedopnames, -8% geprogrammeerde opnames en -4%\nambulante zorg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"chart_nhs_all\">\n\n  <div class=\"chart_nhs\">\n\n    <div England monthly referral to treatment (RTT) data January 2022<\/a><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Belgische situatie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Belgi\u00eb is de vaststelling veel\nmoeilijker te doen, omdat gegevens niet regelmatig en structureel\nworden verzameld. Ons land werd\nlange tijd beschouwd als model wat\ntoegankelijkheid betreft met korte\nwachttijden. In die mate zelfs dat\nwe in het verleden Britse pati\u00ebnten\nhebben opgevangen!\nDeze vaststelling lijkt niettemin\ngenuanceerd te moeten worden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Verontrustende signalen wijzen op een verlenging van de wachttijden, met pieken voor bepaalde gekende sectoren. Beeldvormingsonderzoeken, zoals bijvoorbeeld MRI, worden uitgesteld wegens een tekort aan technologen en de beperking van zwaar materieel.<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vertragingen nemen toe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Verontrustende signalen wijzen op\neen verlenging van de wachttijden,\nmet pieken voor bepaalde gekende\nsectoren. Beeldvormingsonderzoeken, zoals bijvoorbeeld MRI,\nworden uitgesteld wegens een\ntekort aan technologen en de beperking van zwaar materieel.\nToegang tot de raadplegingen\noogheelkunde of huidzieken zijn\nreeds sinds lang synoniem voor\nbelangrijke wachttijden in tal van\nziekenhuizen in ons land. Andere\nspecialiteiten gaan dezelfde kant\nop, zoals recent nog orthodontie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oplossingen om de wachttijden te\nverkorten zijn veelzijdig en lijken\nvaak op matroesjka's. Het aantal\nzorgverleners verhogen veronderstelt dat we een oplossing vinden\nvoor de vraag naar de aantrekkelijkheid in de breedste zin van deze\nberoepen, dat we een duidelijke\nkeuze maken betreffende de beperkingen die nu nog gelden rond\nstudietoegang, dat de verdeling\ntussen zorgverlening in en buiten\nhet ziekenhuis wordt uitgeklaard\nmet duidelijkheid omtrent de\nprocedures, \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ondubbelzinnige\nindicatoren<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00abMeten is weten\u00bb aldus het\nbekende gezegde, dat jammer\ngenoeg ontbreekt in het debat\nover de vraag naar de wachttijden\nin Belgi\u00eb. In het recentste rapport\nvan de OECD over het onderwerp, gepubliceerd in mei 2020, staat\nniets over Belgi\u00eb, terwijl in de\nmeeste buurlanden wordt gemeten\n(Frankrijk, Nederland, Duitsland,\nGroot-Brittanni\u00eb en Zwitserland).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Het pleidooi is helder: we moeten\nzo snel mogelijk ondubbelzinnige\nindicatoren hebben, op de juiste\nmanier gesegmenteerd (per specialiteit, per zorggebied), met een\nregelmatige update, om de basisoorzaken zo doeltreffend mogelijk aan te pakken en de vooruitgang te meten.
